(Answer at the bottom)

JUST ONE MINUTE

Jesus says, “I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.” (John 3:34) “The family is a school of deeper humanity; a school of love.” (St. John Paul II, Familiaris Consortio) In the family, we all learn what it means to be a human person. We learn the deepest values that we hold. As parents, we are teaching our children innumerable things. It is important to be aware and understand what we are passing on to them not only intentionally, but also through osmosis: to be attentive to what we are teaching simply by the way we are: how we drive, solve conflict, speak to and about our spouse, how we talk to and about our children.

Reflection: Spend some time with Heavenly Father today and visit with him about our families. Explore how they are schools of humanity and love, and how they could improve in any area.

St. Teresa of Kolkata

Sept. 5

Raised in a deeply Catholic family in Albania, Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu joined the Sisters of Loreto in 1928 and took the name Teresa. The community sent her to Kolkata, India, where she taught children for two decades. In 1946 Teresa heard God’s call to quench the thirst of Jesus by caring for the poorest of the poor. She left the Sisters of Loreto to rescue the sick and destitute in the slums of Kolkata. She was canonized in 2016.
